The initiative aims at reducing the environmental and health risk resulting from the inadequate management of the system of collection and disposal of municipal solid waste (MSW) in the region of Tirana. The planned activities include works for the controlled management of the Sharra landfill (Tirana), supplies of mechanical equipment to put it in security and to strengthen the system of MSW collection in the suburban areas and provide specialized services to strengthen the organizational and legal framework management. The project activity were completed in 2013 with a saving of over 1 M Euro, which MAECI/DGCS has eventually allowed to be used for the design and construction of the leachate treatment plant and expansion of the Sharra MSW, presently ongoing. The beneficiaries are the inhabitants of the greater Tirana. The Albanian Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure ( MTI) is responsible of the management of the program with the assistance of the Italian Development Cooperation in Albania. The general objectives of the program are aligned with the guidelines of the Albanian Government to protect the environment, through infrastructure projects. The initiative is in line with the Guidelines of the Italian Development Cooperation 2014-2016 to protect the environment. read more close
