Channel reported

Binh Thuan province is located in one of the most droughty areas of Vietnam, characterized by low rainfall and intense sunlight. Only 55.5% of rural households have access to drinkable water and 29.1% of farmland is served by the irrigation system. Due to recent deforestation, coastline areas are also facing serious problems related to desertification. The “Binh Thuan Water Sector Project” has consequently been launched to alleviate the state of drought and to hinder desertification in two selected districts. Main activities include the construction of a drinkable water supply system in Ham Thuan Bac district, and of a water reservoir (called Ca Tot reservoir) in Bac Binh district with the capacity of irrigating 1.500 hectares of farmland held by ethnic minorities. The project is managed by the Provincial People's Committee of Binh Thuan through a Project Management Unit, managed by the Binh Thuan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development. It is planned to be implemented over 5 years. The project benefits of the technical assistance provided through the local fund with DGCS ID number 9906, established in 2012 as a unified local fund to cover the costs of local staff in support of all Italian-funded water projects in Vietnam. read more close
