The initative aims to enhance the cultural heritage of northern kurdistan, through the empowerment of the human and institutional capacity of the Region in the managment of cultural natural and archeological resources. This Project have the origins from the “Land of Nineveh Archaeological Project” (PARTeN) that the Italian Archaeological Mission to Assyria (MAIA) of the University of Udine is leading in the Northern Iraqi Kurdistan Region in collaboration with the Iraqi Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities (State Board of Antiquities and Cultural Heritage) and the General Directorate of Antiquities of Dohuk and Erbil (KRG – Ministry of Tourism). The activities of this new program will be conducted in the archaeological region of Dohuk to ensure promotion and protection of the monumental sites existing in that region through trainings and initiatives mainly focused on the archaeological sites of Tell Gomel and the monumental hydraulic complex of Sennacherib and the monuments associated with it.
