The conflict in Darfur has had particularly devastating consequences for thousands of women and girls. In addition to destruction of homes and communities, the traumatic experience of fight, and years of near-total dependency in IDP camps, women and girls have also suffered very distinctive forms of physical and mental trauma. In line with Italian Guideline on Gender and on Global Health, this project, length 12 months, aimed to support communities to improve access to urgently needed health services as well as critical psychosocial care for two groups with urgent need: survivors of sexual violence and survivors of fistula. UNFPA planned multiple actions in order to builds the skills of community leaders to educate women on health treating issues such as FGM, GBV and fistula and worked on prevention as well as stigma reduction in families and communities. read more close
