The project "Establishment of coordinated multi-sectoral response to gender-based violence through the integration of professional assistance and referral services into the health sector" envisages the introduction of a Family Protection Center (FPC) for GBV survivors within the health facilities to offer wider choices for help and solutions to those women and girls subjected to violence. FPCss offer survivors basic services, including psychological and medical support, help in collecting evidence, information, and referrals. Since they are located inside hospitals, women can access them without drawing negative attention. The Italian Cooperation has supported the development of the project in the province of Herat. Through the Family Protection Center located inside the Regional Hospital, GBV victims in Herat have now access to basic services in one place. While the long term ultimate goal of the project is to contribute to a safe and non-violent environment for women and girls in Afghanistan, its immediate objective is the establishment of a referral path and assistance services for GBV victims using health facilities as the entry point for those women and girls seeking for help and support. read more close
